Keene Elm City Rotary Completes Final Roadside Clean-Up of the Season
On a brisk Saturday morning, members of the Keene Elm City Rotary (KECR) gathered along their adopted stretch of Route 9 to complete the club’s final roadside clean-up of the year. Dressed in bright safety vests and gloves, the volunteers united their efforts to collect litter and debris, transforming one of Keene’s roads into a clean space for winter.
This effort reflects KECR’s enduring commitment to New Hampshire’s Adopt-a-Highway program, where local organizations take pride in maintaining sections of the state’s roadways. For years, the Keene Elm City Rotary has embodied this spirit of service, organizing multiple clean-ups annually as a testament to their dedication to community and environmental stewardship.
“This is one of those simple yet powerful projects,” said a club member. “It’s rewarding to see the difference we make, knowing that we’re fostering a cleaner, safer, and more beautiful community.”
Despite the chilly November air, the enthusiasm and camaraderie among the volunteers were palpable as they gathered for photos after their morning of hard work. The club’s section of Route 9 will shine brightly until activities resume in the spring, reflecting the Rotary tradition of “Service Above Self.”
These clean-up days not only enhance the beauty of the region but also strengthen the bonds within the club, offering a chance to give back to the greater Monadnock community.
